The 'sit-ins' at a Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro launched the passive resistance phase of the civil rights revolution. This book tells the story of what happened in Greensboro; it also tells the story in microcosm of America's effort to come to grips with our most abiding national dilemma--racism.
We will read Civilities and Civil Right by William H. Chafe to learn more about our city and our place in history.
Our first GRRA Book Club meeting will serve as a kickoff session for the relaunch of the program, led by the Mosaic Committee. During this gathering, we will introduce the goals and format of the book club, review how the monthly discussions will work, and outline the reading schedule for the months ahead. This first session is designed to set the stage for thoughtful conversation and shared learning as we begin reading Civilities and Civil Rights. No preparation is required. Just come ready to connect, learn, and help shape the discussion experience for the group.
A few copies of the book will be available to borrow. The book is not currently in print but some used copies are available through Amazon or Ebay.
